"Now you know the rest of the story"
Ron sent me this pic and asked that I post it to explain his reference to these numbers and letters in his comment posted on "Like Father Like Son" This is Carrie's license plate that Ron has keep (only proves a true Cianciaruso never throw anything away, you never know when you may need it, and this proves it ). So now you know the rest of the story...Thursday, June 26, 2008

"Like Father, Like Son "
Came across these this morning and had to share them.
As you can see Michael also had a car, but my Teletubbie suit was too small for him, so he had to wear other stuff also he was fortunate enough to have his own wheelbarrow.
I guess it is true, if we do not learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it.

"I owned the First Hurts Dealership"
This is me circa 1942 driving in my automobiles, yes plural. I had the first "Hurts Dealership"in L.I. City. Actually they were not my cars. They were in the yard of my grandparents house in Long Island City. All my cousin played with them. In the top pic you can see where my father learned his flair for home landscaping, from his parents.... Yes, that is two wheelbarrows, the top one has metal wheels and what would a Cianciaruso yard be without a broken stove...ah, this was all recreated in Floral Park by my father..I tried to do that in Boca and evicted and forced to move to Jacksonville...now you know the true story. Actually, Joey, Janet and Michael lived on the second floor of the house you see as the rear wall in the first pic. I lived in the front house, then came the yard and there was another house. That is where the Conlon's lived. I wish I had those cars today, they would be worth a fortune.
More to come, still sorting all the slides.

"This time Santa did come"
It was a hot summer night, Carrie and I were in the living room with close friends, Karen and Armand...there was nothing good on TV ( some things never change) and as a joke I went into the kids room and yelled, hurry get up Santa was here. Michael opened one eye, looked at me and went back to sleep. Ron jumped out of bed, ran to the living room, looked around then stamped his foot, gave me a dirty look and went back to bed. I guess is was a cruel thing to do but hey we did not have cable, no computer, we did have a mouse, but we caught in two days later...so we had to work with what we had...and that was Michael and Ron....Sorry Michael and Ron....ummm maybe this explains why, till today I find coal in my stocking and it's not even Christmas.

"Did anyone go to Butter Cookie ?"
Started transferring old slides to my PC, have 100's to go through. Doing this just in time, many of them are starting to fade or are so faded there is no picture left. This pic is circa 1971, Ron and Kelly were like horsesh$t in the 1800's. No matter where you looked they were there, but they do take a cute picture. This was taken in the basement of Floral Park for some party or another. We never needed a reason for a party, having a "Y" in the day of the week was reason enough. Carrie and Janet were waiting for the dessert course to be served while Liz and Kate made another batch of Scotch Sour's...Hey, somebody grab a beer on the way down for Uncle Mike..(Conlon of course)....The other Mike (Cianciaruso) was working on his 3rd sandwich of pork skin and hot peppers. ..."and a good time was had by all"

Saints Portal
My fathers Aunt, Zia Mariette celebrated St Anthony's Day every year on June 13th.....She had vowed that if he answered one of her prayers she would honor him each year. It was a full days event....When I was 3 or so, she dressed me as St Anthony and it was fun. She removed all the furniture from her living room and erected a huge altar with a 5 foot statue of the saint...she had rows and rows of flowers and the thing I remembered the most was the "Bread"..she had a local baker, bake 13 loaves of bread each weighing 13 pounds....and each year she would name 13 people to receive the bread. In the kitchen, she had tables of food and drink set up and we spent the entire day there. This was when I was very young...as the years went on, it did become a little political. She selected her favorites to be the "Devote". the term used for the recipients. If she was mad at you for what ever reason, you were out and she tried to select someone that would really tick you off to replace you....It was still fun, but the time spent at her house was less and less each year. When Carrie was pregnant with Michael, she was named "Devote" as soon as we walked in the door....I don't know who was kicked out that year but Carrie was in...I carried the loaf which was a large as a tire and had to hold in on my lap on the way home...ummm but that bread was delicious. Wish I had some today....Thanks for the memory's Zia....

"Old Slides circa 1942"
Purchased a slide transfer scanner and am testing it out. I have 100's of slides and will try to clean them up and put them on computer. This is my first attempt using it. I will have to save them and go into another program to try to clean them up.
These are pics of me....Uncle Angelo ( who died 46 years ago today by the way..June 12th ) my father and me hanging on his leg....we all look like a remake of the Godfather, on a budget. I am sure I have lots with the Conlon Crew....will have to spend some time looking thru all the boxes. I have not been on for awhile, had food poisoning and was down for 5 days....It was either from tomatoes ( Rons choice) or the 8 year old bean sauce I had in the fridge...Regards to all

"Little Rascals - Conlon and Cianciaruso Style"

Came across this pic this morning and had to reshow it.....
(click on pic to enlarge)
Michael standing tall and proud, doing his impression of Stan Laurel, but I think he is wearing my sneakers, Kelly dreaming of becoming a Prudente girl with all the frills that go with it and Ron, knowing even then that one day he would become a B.S. artist..so he is holding up his pants to keep them clean....
This was taken in Floral Park New York, circa 1966-67
Liz and Kate are not in the photo, they were in the back of the yard mixing a "Batch" of scotch sours while putting out the snacks on the "Cement Table".....
We had so much fun back then...a cocktail hour every Saturday afternoon, a Bar B Que would cook our dinner and always had a Crumb Cake and Black and White Cookies from Butter Cookie for dessert....laughing, joking and just being together.....None of us had a lot in those days but we had each other and damn, did we make the best of it.
P.S. I am sure the 4th generation will have to ask their parents to explain some of these things..
